Learn more about Charlotte
With the excitement of a cosmopolitan city and the ease of Southern charm, Charlotte presents a unique atmosphere where big-city style meets down-home appeal. Other cities may boast must-see attractions, but Charlotte offers things to see and do unlike any destination in the country. With the presence of two major man-made lakes within 20 minutes of Charlotte – Lake Norman to the north and Lake Wylie to the south – one can enjoy excellent water recreation, including fishing, boating and swimming.
Some of Charlotte’s most interesting neighborhoods began development in the late 1800s. Dilworth, Elizabeth, Myers Park, Plaza Midwood and South End are part of Charlotte’s original landscape. These neighborhoods have retained and preserved their true character probably more than any to be found in the city. The lovingly restored sidewalk neighborhoods feature large trees, front porches, and unique shops and restaurants. Charlotte’s neighborhoods add an interesting dimension to the city and range from upscale elegance to rejuvenated artisan communities. A wealth of cultural possibilities, dining, shopping, and entertainment can be found in these neighborhoods.
Charlotte is truly a dynamic city. Center City comprises the key business, cultural and entertainment district of Charlotte. Walk along the bustling streets of Center City Charlotte, step aboard the historic Charlotte Trolley or stroll along the tree-lined streets of our neighborhoods and experience the warmth and southern hospitality visitors to the Queen City have come to know.
South Park, Charlotte’s original upscale shopping destination, South Park Mall, and neighboring Phillips Place provide magnificent shopping experiences, not to mention graceful living and fabulous entertainment. Residents refer to the area as “South Park”, emanating from its location surrounding the mall.
Ballantyne, a pre-planned community further south, offers a perfect mix of dining, entertainment, and the five-star Ballantyne Golf Resort & Spa. Just a short drive from Charlotte, to the east are historic Waxhaw and Pineville.
A full menu of recreational/entertainment choices will satisfy any appetite with offerings of museums, performing arts, professional sports, aquarium, zoos and an array of festivals and events.
Outdoor enthusiasts’ options are plentiful with over 200 parks, greenways and nature preserves in the county.
Home is where the heart is, and Charlotte is home to the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Since opening its doors in 2010, it holds appeal as a state of the art hall of fame, entertainment attraction and museum. Ninety percent of all NASCAR teams are headquartered within 50 miles of Charlotte, several of which offer shop tours, gift shops and retail stores.
